Rose Irelan
Rose bases her teaching of art on classical visual elements and
principles; line, color, shape, form, tone, pattern, balance and
design - as well as art history, media exploration, creative
self-expression, cultural appreciation, right-brain drawing
techniques, anatomy and studying of the Masters. She provides an
exciting and nurturing environment where much individual
attention can be directed towards each student. Working with the
beginner to the more advanced student, it is her belief that
anyone can learn to draw given the proper instruction and
dedicating the time required to learn the skill. |

Jean Brinton
Jaecks
An understanding of
subject in varying lights and atmospheric conditions will enable
the painter to infuse their work with energy and emotion. These
three-day workshops are designed for students interested in the
plein air style of watercolor or oil painting. The classes will
be held outdoors working directly from nature in the historic
gardens and on the waterfront of Annapolis. The first evening,
students are invited to the artist’s studio and garden for a
reception. |

L. Diane Johnson

and artists since 1981. She has authored many art articles,
demonstrations and books, and is once again painting around the
globe. Artists at all levels in acrylic, soft pastel and oil are
invited to register. Participants receive comprehensive,
challenging, individualized instruction / training in plein air
painting; freedom, flexibility & lots of encouragement. |

Michael Chesley Johnson
In his weeklong plein air landscape workshop, Michael
demonstrates a variety of materials and techniques, explores
methods for abstracting the landscape, and shows how to use
intuitive, expressive color. Each day starts with a
lecture/demo, followed by plenty of time for student work.
Michael gives personal attention at the easel, complete with
helpful tips and suggestions. |

Robert A. Johnson
The 19th century American painter and teacher Charles Hawthorne
once said that "If you look behind a good painter you will find
square miles of canvas." At gallery shows or within individual
articles or publications one doesn't get a glimpse of the
breadth of an artist's work. Galleries often have a preference
for one genre or subject matter of an artist's work. Articles
and other publications often share that predisposition to focus
on only one type of work. When I contemplated establishing a
website I felt it would offer an opportunity to exhibit a
glimpse of the "square miles of canvas" that perhaps one would
not see in an individual article or gallery show featuring my
work. |

Ron Johnson
Ron will be teaching plein air techniques that allow the artist
to complete a painting on site. Students will paint two sessions
each day, with lots of one-on-one instruction in composition,
color, paint application, drawing and self critique. This is not
a beginner workshop, as students must have some prior knowledge
of oil painting techniques before they arrive at this wonderful
island location. |

Cheryl
Keefer
Finding abundant inspiration in the beautiful Appalachian
foothills, farmland, and people that surround her, Cheryl is
passionate about rendering the essence of a variety of subjects
through the use of the paint, assured brush work, and
spontaneity. She sees beauty in ordinary subjects... sunlight on
a field, shadow patterns in a rocky stream, colors of an
antiquated barn. Her goal is to give the viewer a glimpse of
the simple beauty of a moment through paint on canvas. |
 |
Mark
Kerckhoff
Award winning artist and teacher, Mark’s love of California
landscape will be demonstrated in this series of class
offerings. Classes will include demonstrations and personal
instruction. You will learn how to select subjects, compose an
oil painting, avoid pitfalls, and block in main shapes.
Drawing, value, and color will be emphasized. Painting locations
have been personally chosen with a painter’s eye. |
 |
Laurie
Kersey
Currently, Laurie's work includes the dramatic coastline and
quiet countryside of California; elegant, traditional still
lifes and florals; figures in quiet moments; and horses at work
and play. Laurie teaches painting and drawing in the Fine Art
Department at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, as
well as conducting private workshops near her home on the
beautiful Monterey Peninsula. |
 |
John Kilroy
This workshop is designed to give the artist greater content and
personal meaning to their work. Experience painting "En Plein
Aire" using the Alla Prima method. Examine principles of design
from basic to advance, which are useful for artists working in
any media. Plenty
of individual attention will be given to each student. This
workshop is valuable to any level of experience from the
complete beginner to the longtime professional seeking to
improve their work. |
 |
Patrick Korch
When not painting models he is, more often than not, on the road
seeking out the most dynamic natural locations to set up his
easel and paint "en plein air". For it is working directly from
nature and live models that he captures and transforms the
subtleties of mood, light and atmosphere that transport the
viewer most intimately to the scene. |
 |
Gregg Kreutz
Gregg teaches week long workshops at many locations throughout
the year. A typical workshop is includes one to two dozen
students and covers all sorts of painting - from still lifes to
portraits. Students have the freedom to try out a variety of
painting subjects and also to see Gregg do live painting
demonstrations. |

Peggi Kroll-Roberts
Using intense color and value to accentuate her subject, she
moved into fine art with a bold palette, a love for small
paintings and a very loose style that achieves a lot with a few
very energetic brush strokes. She prefers to suggest reality
than render it. Inspired by her children she paints beach scenes
and other aspects of their lives. She also breaks away from the
conventional still life by painting scenes of cosmetics and the
occasional coffee cup or slab of butter. Peggi's work gives us a
new appreciation of our own daily life. |

Frank LaLumia
Painting from life is the moment of truth. If you can paint
light, then you can paint everything under the sun. From a
technical standpoint, the essential fact of my work is the
experience of working in both oil and watercolor. The
cross-fertilization of ideas, along with the plein air
experience, has produced a body of work that looks more like
itself and less like that of my mentors and teachers as every
day passes. We all have a song to sing. These simple ideas have
helped me find mine. |

Greg LaRock
“Creating three-dimensionality on canvas is a challenging,
life-long pursuit. I aspire to capture the essence of the world
on location through composition, by simplifying nature’s beauty,
depicting her subtle changes in color, light and shadow … and
doing it all with paint.” As a member of several plein air
groups, you’ll regularly find him capturing the light of the
Southern California landscape, “Any excuse to get outside and
I’m there.” |

Skip
Lawrence
People today are so busy that they seldom have time to
appreciate nature and even less time to be inspired by it. That
is one of the many reasons why Skip travels to Maine each summer
to teach his workshop at Pemaquid Point. There, he and his
students are able to slow down and enjoy the beautiful summer
surroundings. Some of his most inspired paintings were born from
the beauty of this area and there is nothing he likes more than
to share that inspiration with his students |

Jeanette Le Grue
I paint in oils in bold fresh color. My subjects include:
still lifes, interior settings, outdoor garden settings and a
variety of landscapes en plein air. The ever-present beauty that
God has created is what inspires me. I am but a sojourner
leaving my mark and yielding to my desire. I can’t image doing
anything else! Classes and Workshops are one of the best ways to
get through to your own artistic talents. The basic disciplines
of the art of painting will help any artist learn and grow. But
more importantly, artists need to establish a firm foundation on
which to be themselves -- without it, you could spend years
getting through what should be just the beginning! |
 |
Gayle Levee
Plein aire artists Gayle Levee and Brett Weaver will demonstrate
and instruct you in color mixing, brushwork and composition, as
well as perspective and gesture. You will complete ten paintings
in the five days, one each morning and one each afternoon. A
sunrise, sunset and night painting might be something you will
enjoy. This is a rigorous workshop, and all levels of painters
are welcome. The instructors will help you with advice, critique
and moral support. |

Calvin Liang
Calvin began painting in high school and completed his art
education at the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, recognized as
one of China’s one most prestigious and competitive art
academies. In China his skills as a fine artist were applied to
the theatrical industry where he designed and created sets for
operas and musical dramas. Liang continued his profession as a
full-time artist and had a long and successful career creating
visual art for the entertainment industry. He ultimately became
fascinated by the beautiful California landscape and decided to
become a plein air painter. |
 |
Huihan Liu
A Master signature member of the Oil Painters of America and an
artist member of California art Club, Huihan Liu was trained in
the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art in China in 1972 with a BA and
MFA from the Academy of Art College of San Francisco in 1989.
With more than twenty years of his professional career as an
illustrator, teacher, and painter, he won Best of Show Award in
the Oil Painters of American Regional Exhibition in 1996 |
 |
Tom Lockhart
Tom travels and paints outdoors as much as possible. “It’s all
out there in front of you. God has given you the best material
and now you must interpret nature your way.” He travels the
southwestern canyons of Arizona and Utah and the northern
villages of New Mexico as well as the Rocky Mountains and the
coast of Maine. He looks for every opportunity to search for
new inspiring subject matter but also returns to many of his
favorite sites looking for a new angle or the way light has
changed the subject. |
 |
David
Lussier
Taught with his wife, plein air painter, Pamela Simpson Lussier,
David's workshops begin each day with a painting demo and
lecture followed by individual painting and instruction. Areas
of focus included composition and a solid block-in,
understanding value relationships and brushwork, color and more
thoughts about a well planned composition. "Many of our students
find that they have moved to a new level with their painting
skills after a week long workshop with us." |
