Scott Lloyd Anderson
I love the honesty of painting from nature. It’s the
painter’s direct response to the day, to the sun, the weather,
the air. The speed required to express fleeting light is a good
thing. It sharpens the senses. Plein air painting is a kind of
performance art—the painter acting in a singular space in time.
A plein air painting is like a music performance recorded live.
It records a moment that will never be exactly repeated. There’s
a spark in it that can be a casualty of studio productions
where, in an effort to eliminate imperfection, artists
(including myself), can tend to second-guess intuition and
spontaneous expression. |

Joe Anna Arnett
Sharing with other artists who are learning and growing in their
craft is one of Joe Anna Arnett's greatest pleasures. Some of
the workshops she conducts concentrate on still life and flower
painting. Some are conducted in locations around the world where
plein air painting is the focus. In each workshop, in addition
to demonstration paintings and lectures, she strives to give
individual attention to each student. Trusting that, "Nothing is
truly yours, until you give it away," Joe Anna believes that the
art of teaching has improved her own understanding of the art of
painting. |

Jacobus Baas
Jacobus will share his knowledge and techniques with a
"hands-on" approach which includes demonstrations, individual
instruction and mentoring, group discussions, critiques and
painting. Jacobus prefers a new and different subject for each
painting session and will encourage participants to directly
engage with nature, experiment, and above all enjoy the painting
process. Nearly all instruction will take place 'en plein air'. |

Kenn Backhaus
Kenn enjoys the challenges of various subject matters, so his
approach to the painting process is to involve the viewer with
those subjects as much as possible, not only through those
choices, but also through how he elects to portray those
subjects. "I want the viewer to see the use of the medium, the
end of that brush stroke, the spontaneity, the assuredness of
the artist. If I can give the viewer a sense of the atmosphere,
a sense of light in the scene, maybe just to open their eyes to
the simple beauty around us, then I feel I have accomplished my
goals. If you agree with this ideal, then come take pleasure
with those artist’s efforts and share a common passion, the
passion of Plein Air Painting." |

Greg Beecham
Greg's philosophy in teaching is to share his own artistic
journey, determine where each student is in his or her own
evolution and assist them in acquiring the necessary skills to
reach their personal goals. He accomplishes this via lecture,
explaining the need to reach beyond simply seeing and
representing a picture and describing the process of problem
solving. That is, by making use of the elements involved in
painting – color, value, texture, edges, composition and
drawing, he reveals his vision for what it takes to go beyond
mere picture to work of art. |
 |
Brian Blood
Brian's painting workshops are open to all levels of painting
experience. They are geared towards helping artist deepen their
insights in painting with oils. Discussions regarding
composition, design, color theory and utilizing a workable
palette, both in the studio and out on location, will further
the artists understanding of the fundamentals. |
 |
Carl Bork
Carl draws inspiration from artists such as John Singer Sargent,
George Bellows, Henri, and Fechin. Carl’s technique is applying
dry brushed thin paint in the darks and dense paint in the
lights often applied with a palette knife and then moved around
with the brush. He composes his figures by the arrangement of
lights and darks giving his work an abstract quality. Painting
figures is his focus, however, he finds great joy in painting
landscapes in the field or in the studio. |

Cynthia Britain
Cynthia's favorite activities are twofold - painting and
spending time in nature. It is the combination of these two
passions that have resulted in her becoming an award winning
plein air painter. "I can't imagine a more gratifying experience
than painting outdoors while listening to the birds sing and
feeling the sun on my face. My intent is to express the
intrinsic truth and beauty of my subject. To reveal the power or
presence of spirit in a place or person. I am inspired by what I
feel and by what I see...They reflect one another." |
 |
Gavin Brooks
Gavin's paintings are the result of time in the company of
nature. Accumulating an outdoor experience over the years has
been important in landscape painting. She’s found herself on a
journey of surprising complexity and perseverance where working
on location is an ongoing exercise in broadening knowledge.
Painting trees, clouds and rivers in deliberate study often
means that many paintings won’t ever make it to a frame. These
notes from the field become part an ongoing experience where
each painting contributes in some way to the next. |

John Budicin
After several years as a commercial artist and freelance
illustrator, John Budicin took the opportunity to pursue his
dream of becoming a plein air artist. John loves to paint directly from nature so he paints
outdoors almost every day. John paints many of his paintings
close to his home in San Bernardino, California. John is not
only a dedicated painter but also spends several weeks each year
teaching workshops all around the US. John also taught a
workshop in Umbria and Tuscany, Italy. |
 |
Scott Burdick
Scott's ideas for paintings come from everywhere. "What makes a
subject attractive to me are the same things that attract us
all. The beauty of a young girl, the character of a weathered
face, the solitude of a farm at sunset, or even the story itself
behind someone or something that makes it interesting." Scott
believes it is the job of the artist to recognize this when it
happens, analyze why, and use his technical skills to convey the
feeling to someone else. He notes that some paintings are as
simple as stopping at the sight of something interesting, while
others may take more time to research than to actually paint. |
 |
Robert Burridge
Robert's popular 'Loosen Up' workshops nurture individual
success and personal enrichment with a big emphasis on daily
painting projects at your own pace. His flagship workshop

as for the novice, His positive approach towards the act
of painting will inspire you to loosen up, have fun again and
paint more! Expect an intense, concentrated and lively workshop
where you will create many works of art using spontaneity for

John Burton
John Burton is an award-winning oil painter whose work includes
portraits, plein air landscapes, still lifes, and quite a bit
more. His influences range from the Russian Impressionists to
John Singer Sargent, though He’s been equally affected by the
narrative techniques of noted illustrators like N.C. Wyeth and
Dean Cornwell. Most of all, the relentlessly globe-trotting
Burton has won accolades for his remarkably vivid depictions of
the human community in action, inspired by both his love o
diverse cultures and passionate desire to record for posterity
